Quick Hits: The Week in TV

Dancing With the Stars. See here. And in case you didn’t see their MJ tribute dance, here it is (and I’m so over the tributes, but this is kickin’).

The Amazing Race. Well, I would talk about it, but after twenty minutes of Anderson Cooper interviewing Drew Barrymore (really??) where TAR should have been, I gave up and deleted it. So I’d just like to say that CBS, you suck. (Oh, but I can’t tell you how glad I am that Lance is out of the race. I liked Keri, but I couldn’t deal with her partner.)

Big Bang Theory. “WILLLLLLL WHEEEEEAAATONNNNNNN!” Love. this. show.

House. I feel bad for Chase. I told Frank, “If you ever murder someone, you need to tell me.” “Okay.” “So I can turn you in.” Not that I really would… Or would I?

Castle. British spy books? “Don’t say the name! We weren’t able to get rights to say it!” Or maybe it’s Voldemort.

CSI: Horatio. Twenty-fourth straight episode with no Super-Awesome Horatio Sunglasses Moments (SAHSMs). Okay, Caruso. We get it. You want people to stop making fun of you. But the thing is, we’re not making fun of you, we’re having fun with your character. So get over it, and give us some SAHSMs. Please.

CSI: NY. If I get shot, and someone says I asked them to do it, they’re lying. Beat them with their own shoes.

Glee. I wanted to do a whole post on this, but I never got around to it. Let me just say that I want to have Glee’s babies, and I love it so much that I’m sure it will be canceled in the next few episodes. Side note: Joss Whedon is supposed to direct an episode in the back nine. I’m thinking he’ll kill off Sue Sylvester and make Rachel gay.

Community. Troy’s politically conservative songs slayed me. “Your team’s Al Gore ’cause your views are wrong.” Also, the football conversation that started with Troy calling Jeff racist and ended with Jeff calling Troy racist. Hi-larious. Please go watch the whole episode.

30 Rock. The government takes over GE, and Gob Bluth is going to be Jack’s boss again. Win. Also, the bit where Jenna’s filming in Iceland killed me.

The Office. Pam should go ballistic more often. This was a pee-your-pants funny episode.

The Middle. Saw the punchline about the forms coming, but it was still funny.

Parks & Recreation. Cute episode. I love how clueless Leslie is.

Smallville. We saw it for what it was from the very beginning: A ripoff of The Game. They like their movie ripoffs on Smallville. Oh, and Chloe! She’s turned all dark and creepy. I like her like this.

Dollhouse. I thought this week’s episode was outstanding. More Sierra-focused eps, please. (But don’t skimp on the Ballard, k?)

[…] my new feature, Quick Hits: The Week in TV, I discuss. . . well, the week in TV. Go join in the […]

  2. tamaita says:

Loved Community as well! We were hoping this would be a good show, because we just love The Soup, and we are so happy that we can laugh so hard at it every week :)
Also, The Office this year is not disappointing either - great episode this last week.

We decided to give The Middle a try, and were pleasantly surprised after its first episode, and it seems to get funnier every week…love Patricia Heaton and “the janitor from Scrubs:)” They have great chemistry - the quirks that their kids display are hysterical :) Yeah, we saw the punchline, but still a great episode.

It has been suggested to me by my mother (which means I should do it :) to watch Castle…I’m dvr-ing it tonight to check it out :)

Do you watch Heroes? I’d love to know your take on it - we’ve been in it from the beginning, and are stuck now :)

  3. SarahK says:

I love Castle just because I love Nathan Fillion. Worth a shot if you think he’s one of the most adorable people to ever walk the planet.

We gave up on Heroes last season. Seasons 2 & 3 sucked, so we almost gave up, but then we heard that Brian Fuller was coming on as a show writer. But he was one there for one or two episodes, and then he quit to work on an NBC pilot or something, so we took it off the DVR.

  4. Jessica says:

    SarahK!

Ok checked here expecting there to be no new posts. Because apparently I’m unaware of your willingness to post about shows other than AI.

I am thrilled beyond measure that you adore Glee, Community, and Parks and Rec as much as I do. Also, the Office is phenomenal.

What are your thoughts on Ellen joining AI???

And who do you predict to win DWTS. BTW, I despise Aaron Carter.

And, I hated Lance and Keri on AR too. I’m sad about Zev and Justin and their passports.

    Ok that is all.

  5. Cullen says:

Glee and Community are probably my favorite new shows of the season. I love Jane Lynch so much. I think she carries the show, but that’s OK.

  6. Kate P says:

I am behind in my “Community” viewing but I do find it HILARIOUS. Excellent cast, funny storylines.

I really, really want to like “Glee.” I think the most recent episode brought me very close to “like.”

  7. Lisa says:

As a former show choir member, I love Glee so much I want to take it behind the middle school and get it pregnant. (TM Tracy Jordan)

  8. tamaita says:

I do enjoy Nathan Fillion - loved him since 2 guys and a girl :) Last night’s episode is on the DVR - I am going to watch it tonight :)

  9. SarahK says:

tamaita, you’re going to LOVE last night’s episode! It had meta-brilliance!

Kate, you must like Glee. Everyone must.

Cullen, same here–those are my favorite new additions this season. But then I haven’t yet watched an episode of Vampire Diaries so we’ll see.

Jessica, I don’t find Ellen all that funny anymore, and I think it was an asinine decision for the show. She makes NO sense as an AI judge. I think Derek & Joanna or My’a & Dimitri will win. I was also so sad about Zev & Justin. I really liked them. But I also love Megyn & Cheyne and Flight & Big and some of the others are growing on me. Though I was kind of annoyed with Flight & Big for taunting Mica, but I mean, come on. If you go on TAR, you KNOW you’re gonna have to do all the stuff you’re scared of. Like I’d probably have to go in the ocean and bungee jump and climb a glacier.

  10. SarahK says:

Lisa, hahahaha! Me too, me too.

  11. pammyv says:

Glee is my new fave of the year….love The Middle, too.

How about Fringe and Flash Forward? Or is Sci Fi out for SarahK?

  12. SarahK says:

No, Fringe is on our list, but it wasn’t on last week because of stupid baseball. Flash Forward conflicts with Bones and The Office (and CSI Vegas and Vampire Diaries), so we can’t record it. But we’re about to get a 2nd DVR, so I’ll have to make a choice between CSI and FlashForward.

  13. ericL says:

Love, love, love the Quick hits. I hope that this is something that you do weekly.
NBC’s Thursday night comedy line up is the only reason I watch that channel. All 4 shows have been great (although I thought Pam’s freak-out was a bit tedious toward the end. Jim&Dwight dynamic has been spot on this season).
I haven’t seen this season’s Big Bang, but watching the first two on Netflix, and this show is climbing up my list of favs.
    Glee is great.
House is loosing my interest (I blame Obama for stealing Kumar from the show).
Thanks for the Quick Hits, and keep’em coming.

  14. Jessica says:

So last night, while watching DWTS they cut to a commercial before Michael and Anna’s dance. I turned to Paul and said “I have a feeling this is going to be terrible.” To which Paul replied, “Yeah, but it can’t be any worse than having a nickel up your butt and then giving it to Bruno. Am I right, or am I right?”

Just thought I’d share that piece of info.

Also, I agree with your thoughts on Ellen. It may ruin the whole show.

I LOVE Flight and Big Easy, I definitely thought them harassing Mica was HILARIOUS. Not as hilarious as Mica screaming “help me, help me” to the attendant at the top of the slide. But really, if you sign up for AR, you’re going to have to do some uncomfortable things. And some ridiculous things. Like eating gross stuff. I would not want to eat gross stuff. Megan and Cheyne are ok too. We dislike the Miss America lady. She’s mean to her husband. And we like the kid with pink hair and his Dad. I can’t remember their names.

BTW, I’m about to give up on Heroes too. The episode last night was TERRIBLE.

And…stupid baseball?!?!?!?! You hurt my heart a little bit with that one. :(

  15. lori388 says:

Just checking to see if anyone saw the new Castle? Don’t miss the beginning - a reference to “Firefly”.
Also does anyone love Walter from “Fringe”? I swear he has no filter, if he’s thinking it, he says it!
I’m kinda worried about “flashforward” - we got invested in the other shows like journeyman and life on mars and then they were cancelled… ):

Also, modern family should be paired with the middle - a perfect hour. I didn’t want to like modern family - thought it was going to be too “P C”.

I didn’t see anyone mentioning Lie to Me. Does anyone watch that?

  16. SarahK says:

No, Paula’s exodus is what will ruin the whole show.

You’re right though. Miss America lady IS mean to her husband. He just takes it, because she’s a super-hot woman interested in his average self.

By “stupid baseball,” I mean “any series in which the yankees are playing because I hate them and they can all go die.”

  17. Jessica says:

Oh, well then I agree about the stupid baseball part. I hate the Yankees. Completely.

  18. pammyv says:

Oh I didn’t even realize Fringe wasn’t o last week. My DVR died Friday before I had a chance to watch all my Thursday shows. Fixed now, but stupid baseball has preempted Glee, I think. And by stupid baseball, I actually mean stupid baseball. Sorry :)
