Beauty and the Geek — Season Four Finale?

We’re back at Geek Manor for the season finale!

The host (still have no idea what his name is) is introducing the final two teams: Meathead Sam and music-nerd Nicole, and LARPer Dave and beauty Jasmine. Nicole looks like a strung out co-ed–she has that exhausted, 4 a.m., I’m about to pass out look in her eye. Seriously, did someone put Xanax in her fruit punch?

Flash back three days, and the players have to take their respective teammates to their hometown–very American Idol. This is a great twist. LARPer Dave takes Jasmine back to Boston–as one might expect, Dave’s freinds are LARPers (i.e. losers). Dave announces he has a “surprise” for Jasmine–it turns out, he’s taking her LARPing–what the surprise in that could be is beyond me. Oddly, it is even more nerdy than I imagined. They prance around a park making fools of themselves looking for a magic wand and swinging styrofoam swords at each other.

Cut to Sam taking Nicole to his hometown gym. They follow-up at a bar called “The Graduate” where they meet Sam’s brother Joe, who looks like a normal, chubby guy. Then his friends show up, and its like “A Night at the Roxbury”. They drink some tequila, and dance “The Matrix. It actually is quite an impressive physical feat. Next, Nicole takes Sam to Tufts University where she studies musicology–whatever that is. She sings an aria, which is passable (at best). They then meet Nicole’s nerdy friends, several of whom appear to bat the other way.

Next, Jasmine takes Dave to Columbus, Ohio, and he meets her mom and sister. The sister is a tom boy, and Jasmine is a girly-girl. They then meet the kids Jasmine babysits for–I’m not sure if she is a nanny, or what the situation is. They jump around on a trampoline, and Dave does a miserable back flip. Dave of course steers the conversation towards LARPing–even eight year olds realize how uncool that is.

Back at the mansion, Dave talks about how they were postive charged ions that repelled, but then reversed polarity and came together. Actually, if that were the case, they would still repell LARPy boy. Maybe his dungeon master rewrote the laws of particle physics?

The teams are wracking their brains about how the winner will be chosen. The previous three finales had very unsatisfying resolutions–some were unfair, some simply seemed random. I hope they get it right this time. I would love them to do a “Friend or Foe” type challenge, but I don’t see that happening. The producers always put a positive spin on their “social experiment.”

We come back to find out that America will choose! I like this. They must make a speech to America about how they have changed. It would have been nice to have known this from the begining so I would be cognizant of editing choices. Regardless, given the choice between these two teams, I have to give it to Dave and Jasmine running away. Sam hasn’t changed at all–I think he was a pretty nice guy when he came in, and is a nice guy leaving. Nicole also hasn’t changed at all, except that she now dresses like a coke-ho. Neither team communicates why they should win very well. Dave essentially just got a haircut and lost the nerdy glasses. Jasmine is exactly the same, adorable, clueless person now as when she came in. When I think about it, neither team particularly deserves to win. I won’t vote, but if I did, I guess I would have to go with Dave and Jasmine–despite the LARPing. Voting is open until Friday, with a winner/reunion show next week. I can’t wait!
