Beauty and the Geek — S4E4 — It’s Not Rocket Science
This weeks episode sees Erin and Jesse returning from elimination with revenge on their mind. They aim to unseat Will and Rebecca, the early powerhouses in the game who are rubbing everyone the wrong way. Rebecca and meathead Sam can’t keep their hands off each other, and female geek Nicole is upset when Rebecca goes into their room to make out with Sam in the bunk bed above hers. She runs off to sleep in the living room and whines to Katie the next day–apparently she is not so different from most females (despite her inability to make a gift basket that appeals to women–see last week’s challenge). Overall, I find her reaction to be absurd–but I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt due to her being in an intense and unusual environment.
The challenges are a walk down memory lane, with America picking their favorite challenges from seasons past. Erin hopes the “Rocket Science” challenge isn’t chosen (where they have to put together a model rocket and fire it), because she knows nothing about “astrology”. Cut back to Nicole who is STILL whining about Sam! She isn’t even practicing with him, which seems like a recipe for disaster since Sam is a moron under even the best of conditions.
The first geek challenge is “Massage by Geek”. Will thinks he will prevail, since Rebecca is a massage therapist student and has showed him everything she knows. The geeks are to give massages to beauties who are wearing blindfolds and earbuds, and they vote for the best one. LARPer Dave uses his “typewriter” technique–essentially typing up and down the beauties’ backs–because his mom likes it! Three are tied for second place, and the group hoped Will was not a winner again. And the winner is . . . Jesse. The group is suitably relieved–they’re all chomping at the bit to throw out Will and Rebecca.
Rebecca pulls out the waterworks to garner sympathy from Jesse, and feels the pressure of everything riding on her shoulders. Will talks to Erin about why he nominated her, and tries to talk her out of revenge. I have a feeling it did not work. Will studies hard just in case they are sent to elimination, while Rebecca spends her time flirting. Out in the backyard, best friends Will and LARPER Dave hit each other with foam swords.
The next challenge is “Rocket Science”. Personally, I was hoping for the fashion one, where the geeks buy clothes for the women that they have to model. They did that the first season, and it was a complete disaster for the beauties. The girls don their safety goggles and start assembling their rockets. The rockets are flimsy and cheap. Sam’s first effort misfires, but he quickly puts a second rocket together and wins.
Rebecca is spending her time whining about possibly going home. Nicole tries reverse psychology on Sam so that he picks someone who can defeat Will and Rebecca. Nicole wants the budding romance nipped in the bud.
The first pair up for elimination are Will and Rebecca. Rebecca whines that Jesse and Erin are just out for revenge–how dare they! Sam chooses William and Jen–Nicole’s reverse psychology worked! Rebecca whines that she is not ready to go home because she “needs this change”. However, it seems to me that by hooking up with Sam she is just reinforcing her bad judgment and choices. Rebecca bawls that no one will help her study–wwwwaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.
First up, the beauties. First question for Jen–who is NASA’s Glenn Research Center named after–John Glenn, correct. Next up, Rebecca–what is name of first space shuttle prototype–incorrect–Enterprise. Next, name all the planets that men have walked on–she says the Earth and the Moon–obviously, the Moon is not a planet. Next up, name the computer from 2001 from a multiple choice list. She STILL misses it. The score is 1-0.
Now the geeks William–what is the translation of siatsu–a massage technique–he answers correctly. Will–which two indian tribes rubbed warriors down [SK: with paint] prior to battle–INCORRECT–Cherokee and Navaho are the correct answers. Will and Rebecca are OUT!

I’ve got mad love and a new respect for geek girl, that was effing ruthless! One of the best and most pragmatic BATG moves of all time. Rebecca was straight bologna. “I’m not ready to go cuz I still need to grow and be a better person bla bla bla.” Shut the hell up Becca, go find your next Sam and don’t piss in the pool.

I agree it was *teh awesome* when Natilie went all puppetmaster on Sam. Now, the question is, will Sam improve now that he is no longer distracted, or will he move on to someone else weak of mind.
On another note, that Jen girl is built. Like Power Girl built. Like crush you like a empty can built. There is an inherant risk in hanging out with a gilr who can kick your [pinkytoe] on a whim.
As for Becca, you are right Tony, once you piss in the pool, its hard to get invited back in for a swim.
