Stolen Horse and the Cherry Blossom Tree
Heroes S2E2
Previously on Heroes… Kensei is pretty. Thank you, casting. Thank you. Also, Molly lives with Parkman and Mohindar. Peter is alive. Nathan is a drunk. Sulu was murdered. Calleigh’s old abusive-ish bf from CSI: Horatio found Peter. Claire is in a new school and has a mutant stalker. Her family all lives together.
Chapter Two: Lizards.
Peter is being questioned and beaten by the people who found him in the container in Ireland.
Is that what poached eggs look like? Claire saves her mom’s wedding ring from a pot of boiling water. HRG and Crazy Cheermama are insisting that Claire lay low (shouldn’t that be lie low?).
Claire goes off to school, and Crazy Cheermama shows HRG the photo of dead Sulu, and he says he knew this would happen, because he has one of Isaac’s paintings. HRG says there are seven more paintings, but he doesn’t have them and doesn’t know who else is supposed to die. I wonder if Crazy Cheermama is the one killing off the others of the nine. But I also wonder if it’s the Petrelli dad, who is supposedly dead.
Ando and Parkman are talking, and Ando tells Parkman about Kensei’s symbol on Sulu’s picture. Have those two ever met before? We don’t remember their meeting, and it doesn’t sound like they have. Parkman needs to talk to Mrs. Petrelli and to Hiro.
Hiro and Mistuh Sahhk are arguing, and Kensei is drunk. Hiro is trying to sober him up so he can be a hero. Kensei passes out, and Hiro takes his horse, armor, and all that. We’ve both been wondering if Hiro ends up being his own hero. Please don’t let that mean that David Anders goes away early. He needs to stick around forever and ever.
Claire is standing out in her biology class. No, Claire, being an individual is bad!
Mohindar and Midas are arguing about what Mohindar needs for his research. They’re discussing the virus. Mohindar’s sister and Molly are the only ones who have been hit, and Midas thinks they have a third case.
All this reading of subtitles! Can’t they just dub everything for us? The Central American brother and sister stop in at the house of someone they know, and she’s going to help them get into Mexico. Death Sister feels bad for risking the nice lady. She’s worried “it” will happy again.
A girl named Kaitlyn is cleaning up Peter. She tells him that someone named McSorrelly is the one they’re supposed to deliver info to. Peter tells her that he’s the one who gave the guy the electric shock in the container. She’s been cleaning his blood off, and HE DOESN’T HAVE A MARK ON HIM! NO WAY! Too bad he has amnesia and doesn’t know that he’s a supercool superhero.
Mohindar is in Haiti. Yay, I’ll bet that means we’ll meet the Haitian again! But oh no… that probably means the Haitian is the one sick with the virus. Yep, he is. The Haitian doesn’t want to be cured, because he abused his God-given power. Mohindar says he was led to the Haitian, so maybe he should take that as a sign that God isn’t done with him yet.
The Central American kids are waiting to go to Mexico, and a healer offers to help them. The healer takes the girl’s hand, and she tells the girl that she has something black inside her! It’s called black oil, yo. The healer tells their friend that she refuses to cross with the Black Oil Kids.
Hiro comes upon the swordsmith’s daughter, and she is surrounded by men with swords. They’re threatening to kill her, and Hiro comes up and starts talking about how they should fear Kensei, because he’s the greatest swordsman Japan has ever known. One asks, “Why does he keep talking about himself in third person?” or something. Hiro time leaps to steal all their swords, then their bows. As they run away, he says that should write about the event in their history books and call it “The Battle of Twelve Swords.” Hahaha. The swordsmith’s daughter joins him on his horse. Aww!
Peter is trying to get out of his ropes, and he suddenly slips right through the ropes. Right through them. D.L.’s power. Then when thugs come in to try to attack the girl who was helping him, Peter defends her with his Sylar power and his Caveman Ted power. Peter’s super-awesome.
Claire’s Creepymutantstalker is telling Claire about Mohindar’s book and they should study the genetics of lizards together.
Aw. Hiro and the swordsmith’s daughter end up in a cherry blossom grove, and they see a deer. Hiro says that deer are the messengers of God, and if you give a deer a message, he can take it anywhere for you. Just like Patronuses! Swordsmithette is so taken with Hiro Kensei, and Hiro says that Kensei’s love for her will be the stuff of legend. She wants a kiss and closes her eyes. He makes the cherry blossom petals fall on her and teleports out. Frank and I feel like we’re watching a Zatoichi movie.
The Haitian does have the Mutant Disease. Mohindar says he works for a company, and the Haitian says, “Yes. There is always a company.” And Mohindar wakes up in Midas’s office with no memory of being in Haiti or of meeting the Haitian. So he has obviously cured the Haitian, or the Haitian couldn’t have taken Mohindar’s memory. Midas says the virus is contained.
On the Guatemala/Mexico border, things are very dangerous, and they are about to go through a tunnel into Mexico. Maya and Alejandro get into the tunnel, but she acts like a girl and gets all scared, holds them up and all that. Maya gets into Mexico, and the friend is about to die because Maya’s Black oil problem is coming out. This time, we see the black oil coming from Maya’s eyes. Maya’s brother was left behind in Guatemala, making him conveniently *not* affected by the Black Oil.
Maya has been crying, and her mascara is running really bad. Her brother is really good at saying it’s not her fault. Now we realize that this only happens if the Mascara Twins are separated. Now that they’re back together, he fixes everything and makes it alright. He seems to heal her by bringing all the Mascara into his own body. Huh. It also cured their friend who helped them into Mexico. She calls them evil and runs away, back into Guatemala.
Claire goes to see HRG at Fedex KinkosCopy Kingdom. She tells him her car has been stolen, and by the way, she left it unlocked. She starts wondering if she can cure people, if she is missing out on helping people by going into hiding, and HRG tells her that if she’s caught, she’ll be subjected to a ton of tests.
Parkman questions Mrs. Petrelli. She says she didn’t need Mr. Nakamura’s money, and she hasn’t slept with him in a very long time. She also says the symbol is the symbol of her husband’s law firm. So… I wonder if Hiro is her son. Or is Peter or Nathan Sulu’s son? Parkman gets inside her head and hears her saying someone wanted revenge for something terrible they did. Parkman starts to question her about revenge, and she screams inside her head, “Get out of my head!” He jumps, and she looks surprised by his reaction. He leaves to see MahmoudNathan, and while they two are talking, Mrs. Petrelli is attacked by someone invisible. Maybe she’s imagining someone attacking her, or it’s The Invisible Man? Parkman busts in, and she shows him the picture of her face with Kensei’s symbol over it. Dun dun dunnnn.
Back in Ireland, the Irish girl wants to know how Peter did all that stuff. Ricky, her brother, walks in and yells at Peter for saving his sister. Ricky says Peter has to help him with a heist, and then he can have all his stuff back.
Hiro tells Kensei that everyone is already talking about his bravery. The swordsmith’s daughter runs in and gives Kensei the famous sword, then runs out. He tells Hiro he’s in if it means more rewards and more of the swordsmith’s daughter. Hiro and Kensei leave the bar as Hiro tells Kensei that it’s a deal as long as Kensei stops drinking. They get outside, and Kensei is shot in the chest with three arrows from the men Hiro beat earlier. NOOOOOOO! IT LOOKS LIKE MISTUH SAHHHK IS DYING, AND I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS! HE’S DEAD! NOOOOO! BOOO! Oh. He came back to life. That’s good. He’s a self-healer like Claire. Lots of lizards this episode.
Mohindar returns home and calls HRG to tell him the mission was a success. The Haitian arrives at Copy Kingdom, and the two old friends shake hands. Aww.
Claire is at home, painting her toenails. She spies a pair of scissors and decides she’s going to cut off one of her toes. At least, I assume that’s what happened, because the DVR cut off at that point. GRR. ARGH.

Yes, she struggled to cut off her toe, because those scissors were really too blunt. She should have retrieved the kitchen shears. Her pinky toe goes flying and the stub starts pumping blood. She says, “come on, grow back.” Make it so. Nifty little graphic as the bone grows and then skin reappears. I was going to be really made if the nail was painted red, but it was not.
Claire stares at her regenerated toe, freak dog barks, and mutantsexoffenderspyboy is outside the window staring at Claire in shock. Eyes lock. He runs, Claire runs after him, he of course disappears. Claire finds Mohinder’s book in the driveway, and freak dog is barking madly straight up into the air where I assume mutantsexoffenderspyboy is hovering. Claire does not look up. To be continued…

Yeah, she cut off one of her toes and it regenerates. Her new flying boy friend (a boy who’s also a friend, not a boyfriend; at least not yet) was hovering outside her window and saw the whole thing.
I wonder if the toe will grow a whole new Claire? That would be kinda awesome.

Yeah… and mutant spyboy peeking Tom in the Window? Not cool. HRG will shoot you, boy - shoot you real dead.

I know, that kid’s creepy, right? Thanks for the updates, y’all. We found it online this afternoon and watched. I wasn’t sure whether the toe would grow back or not, just because it’s one of those body parts that the biology teacher claims we don’t need. I figure anything God gave us is something we need.

so is HRG human resource guy? I really can’t remember
October 3rd, 2007 at 12:17 am
Haha, human resource guy. Horn-Rimmed Glasses. Noah.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:07 am
oh yeah! Horn-Rimmed Glasses! sorry, but now human resource guy makes me giggle since I know it’s wrong. from now on, i think in my head he will be HRG Squared!

What’s up with the DVR cutting off?? I got about 1 minute more of the episode than you did, but it’s driving me crazy it’s either:
1) The cable/satellite company’s time is off
-or-
2) The networks are purposely messing up the start and stop times of these shows.

Peeping boy also left Claire a copy of Dr. Suresh’s book in the driveway (which Mr. Muggles would have shredded were he not barking up at the sky).
Claire’s gonna get an education.

Our DVR cut off, too. DROVE ME NUTS until the show was posted on the website. Food Network does this, too–all their shows are like a minute off, so that you never catch the end, if you’re recording something while you’re at work.
The flyboy reminds me of the boyfriend-to-be in Twilight (sorry, not finished with that book, and yes, I realize there are two more out there). This will be interesting.
No, the toe won’t grow back a new Claire. She’s not Wolverine. If her brain becomes separated from her spine, then she’s dead. Permenantly. According to the show’s creators, anyway. You’ll have to look at the various blogs out there to find it, but that’s what’s been stated in a few places.
I’m still wandering if Mistuh Sahhk is alive and kicking in today’s Heroes world. I mean, if he can regenerate, then wouldn’t it stand to reason that he’d stay the age that he is? And wouldn’t Claire do the same?
Speaking of which, here’s an odd question: If they can regenerate, it stands to reason that they’ll stay looking as they do right now. ie, they won’t age. If that’s the case, why does Mistuh Sahhk look a lot older than Claire? Did his powers start much later in his life? And how are the shows creators going to keep them looking the age they currently are?
Or am I asking waaaay to much out of a fantastic show?
October 3rd, 2007 at 6:15 pm
Not aging because of regeneration doesn’t take into account that aging is a natural process. Claire will undoubtedly live a long time but I think she will “age” naturally.

Good thought about the Invisible Man being the one murdering the nine original members of the company. That totally slipped my mind. It definitely would fit what we’ve seen of the murder scenes and what we know of him so far. It doesn’t explain how he can fall from a building and survive, but that’s just a detail. ;)
The creepy stalker boy, though - I hope Claire ends up kicking his [pinkytoe] at some point. Then they can be friends. :)
