Raving Roundup 9/23 to 9/29
Anything not long enough for its own post goes here.
Sunday night football 9/23/07:
- Ok, so Dallas Cowboys v. Chicago Bears. I actually got a Cowboys game, finally! In pre-game action, Gloria Estefan sang the national anthem. I was bracing myself for the worst, but I was pleased with her rendition. As all of you who read my AI reviews know, her music tends to make my skin crawl. It’s probably not her fault — I’m no fan of Latin music. I’m actually not crazy about her voice, either, but she’s usually singing a conga beat, which is… well, a beating. When she sang the national anthem, I was pleasantly surprised. She didn’t do much improvising — and improvising to make the song all about you makes the anthem suck. A proper Star-Spangled Banner is sung as written.
- And then they had the Faith Hill song, sung to the tune of “I Hate Myself for Loving You.” SIMON: The singing was fine, the dancing was hokey, and the lyrics were atrocious. SARAHK: I agree with Simon! As always. POH-LER: Where’s my vodka? RANDY: Yeah, dawg! SARAHK: Yeah, dawg… what? RANDY: Just… I wasn’t payin’ attention, yo. Was it good? SARAHK: Off you go. Not you, Faith. You, Randy. Poh-ler gets to stay. Entertainment value.
- One more thing on SNF. The Hiro/T.O. skit was hilarious and in favor of my team. I mean, except for T.O. being in the skit.
Other:
- So there’s apparently a show on the CW called “Online Nation.” I say “apparently,” because I saw most of it tonight (kinda by accident). The guide description says, “The best Web sites, blogs, and user-generated material on the Internet.” I told Frank, and he said, “It’s about us?” Actually, it looks like it’s about people who make videos of themselves destroying stuff. Maybe we’ll make the cut on our cross-country move, when we destroy our animals’ love for us and a little bit of our own dignity.
